Old web site stored online

Some time ago, I realized the resources to store my web site on line, were available.

I stored a copy at the archive.org site:

Currently, the website is available at :

I have also deposited a copy at: archive.org

Please note this site has been in storage for fifteen years and is in major need of updating. Most of the pages date to 2004-2005

Most of my work in HDR and Cartography was done before 2004.

Welcome to my site
On this site, you will find many things. A wide variety of subjects are encountered. Many will be based in science and require more than a nodding aquaintance with the subjects and usually advanced math too. Sometimes not. This site is more than a whim but not a commitment. Currently, High Dynamic Range imaging is relevant and has been explored in great detail. There are many sites that discuss HDR on any level or area in which your interests lie. My area has been in film scanning and unusual environments such as dawn-to-morning, fogs, aerial perspective sequences. Application to medical X-Ray film is another area of interest.
Cartography is interestting. The system of projections is like a mathematical puzzle. How do you wrap an orange in a sheet of paper wiithout wrinkling or folding the paper. You can cut if you like, but not unless you think cutting is necessary. Origami seems to be a related subject. Speaking of Origami, see the Home Improvement page for an unorthodox method to cut down a tree.
Another area of interest is Climate. I have some Matlab(C) scripts to extract and format free data from the web. Matlab is an extensive and expensive mathematics software suite. There is a student version available and some freeware competitors such as Octave and Scilab. Octave regularly crashes on my computer so I compile Scilab using Microsoft's Visual Studio 6 and use Scilab in addition to Matlab. The data can be analyzed for frequency components and other parameters using common math functions. Matlab can create an image of the plot or you can use GNUPlot, which is free. There seems to be a weekly temperature component in the climate where I live (N.E. Tennessee). There is reason to believe this is due to the seven day workweek. Eventually, I may get to do a FFT on the data and graph the results. There is more here than I've discussed. Look around, you may find something useful or entertaining.

The PoV-Ray rendering engine is the core tool in producing 3D topo maps and animations Pov-Ray's Radiosity, Photon Mapping and Media, all contribute to the realism. PoV-Ray is a freeware renderer available at www.povray.org
